The Sweet & Sour Truth about Acai Berries
Published:September 16th, 2009First, the sweet nectar about acai berries.
Supposedly packed with antioxidants, the highly touted Amazonian fruit — acai berries — are all the craze right now for their health benefits. There is food for thought and truth in the fads surrounding these berries. The berries are very fragile, not traveling well in fresh form from their home in the Amazon rainforest to market. That’s why they are available as acai juice, acai pulp, and acai supplements.
Antioxidants, while not actually scientifically proven to prevent cancers, move free radicals out of the body. Many scientists, proponents of antioxidants, theorize that free radicals (leftovers from chemical reactions in the body) would do damage, such as cause cancers, if left unfettered. Acai berries are such antioxidants, so they may potentially have these protective qualities to move free radicals out of the body.
To help the berries do their best work, a colon cleanse is recommended prior to introducing these berries to your body. The colon cleanse clears out any gunk, making a fresh surface for the berries to do their work in helping you to shed unwanted weight.
The Sour.
As with any “fad” or popular diet, there are scams out there, so beware. The Attorney General of Illinois is filing suit against various companies that allege to provide products with acai berry. But, they apparently forgot to add the acai berry to their products. So, go with trusted names, trusted friends, and trusted sources when choosing your acai berry supplements, juices, and pulps.
